Joel Bertocchi to Discuss Blagojevich Trial on Chicago Tonight

March 9, 2011
Joel D. Bertocchi, a Partner in the Chicago office of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, will appear tonight on WTTW11’s Chicago Tonight program. Mr. Bertocchi will participate in a panel discussion about the motion that former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich filed this morning asking that his upcoming retrial on criminal charges be cancelled. Mr. Blagojevich alleges in his motion that his lawyers have not been paid for time they have spent in preparing the defense and so cannot effectively represent the former Governor. Mr. Bertocchi previously appeared on Chicago Tonight on August 17, 2010, as a member of a panel of former assistant U.S. attorneys and defense attorneys discussing that day’s verdict finding Mr. Blagojevich guilty of false statements to the FBI.

Mr. Bertocchi is an experienced criminal and appellate litigator. He is a former Solicitor General of the State of Illinois and Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Chicago, and has litigated in courts ranging from the trial level to the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Bertocchi briefs and argues civil and criminal appeals, as well as complex motions (class certification, dismissal, summary judgment, etc.) in trial courts. He also represents individuals, groups and companies in connection with criminal and regulatory investigations, counsels them on compliance policies and related issues and conducts internal investigations in all areas, including corporate governance and employee misconduct. Mr. Bertocchi also provides strategic advice to clients, in and outside the litigation context, on the application of complex statutes and regulatory issues, including RICO and fraud.
