Hinshaw Announces Election of New Partners

Based in Hinshaw’s Chicago office, Matthew J. Canna handles trademark claims (prosecution and litigation) and represents clients in patent infringement matters. He is licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Canna also defends industrial product and equipment manufacturers and premises’ owners in toxic tort personal injury claims. Mr. Canna earned his J.D. in 2003 from the Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago-Kent College of Law, 2003, and his B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 2000.

Based in Hinshaw’s Los Angeles office, Katherine Cheng Arnold defends self-insured entities, uninsured employers and insurance companies in worker’s compensation matters. She is also experienced in the areas of immigration and naturalization law, trademark and copyright applications, as well as criminal procedure. Ms. Cheng Arnold is a member of the Los Angeles Bar Association and the Asian Pacific American Bar Association. She earned her J.D. in 2002 from Loyola Law School and her B.A., with honors and high distinction, from the University of California at San Diego, in 1999. Ms. Cheng Arnold speaks conversational Chinese.

Based in Hinshaw’s Los Angeles office, Gary E. Devlin defends clients in business, commercial and general liability litigation, and in residential real estate foreclosure matters. He is also experienced in handling cases involving construction defects, employment law, insurance coverage and bad faith litigation, intellectual property, personal injuries, premises liability, products liability, professional liability and subrogation. Mr. Devlin served in the U.S. Army for four years and received the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (twice), the National Defense Medal and the Army Service Medal. He is a member of the State Bar of California. Mr. Devlin earned his J.D. in 2000 from Pepperdine University School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude. In 1997, he received his B.A. from San Francisco State University, graduating summa cum laude.

Based in Hinshaw’s Boston office, Justin M. Fabella represents clients in professional liability matters, with particular emphasis on legal malpractice defense and agent and broker E&O liability. In addition, he represents insurance companies in first and third-party insurance coverage matters. Mr. Fabella is also experienced in handling commercial litigation involving mortgage lenders and servicers. He is a member of the Defense Research Institute (DRI), Massachusetts Bar Association, New York State Bar Association and the Boston Bar Association. Mr. Fabella earned his J.D., in 2002 from Suffolk University Law School, graduating cum laude. He received his B.A. in economics from the State University of New York in 1996.

Based in Hinshaw’s Chicago office, Nabil G. Foster defends attorneys in professional liability and disciplinary matters. He also represents clients in commercial litigation and has handled matters involving subjects such as internet gambling, breach of contract, civil rights, consumer fraud, ERISA, eminent domain, employment discrimination, insurance coverage, products liability and professional liability. Mr. Foster is an Adjunct Professor at Northwestern University School of Law. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Mr. Foster earned his J.D. in 2000 from Northwestern University School of Law, and his A.B. from Harvard College in 1994.

Based in Hinshaw’s Ft. Lauderdale office, Paul J. Gamm defends clients in cases involving retail and hospitality liability, pharmacy negligence, automobile and trucking accidents, products liability and medical malpractice, with a particular emphasis in defending catastrophic injury claims and large exposures. Mr. Gamm earned his J.D. in 2002 from Nova Southeastern University, where he graduated cum laude. He received his B.A. in 1995 from the University of Miami. Mr. Gamm also earned a Master of Physical Therapy (M.P.T.) degree from Nova Southeastern University in 1999.

Based in Hinshaw’s Chicago office, Kimberly A. Jansen focuses her practice in appellate law. She is an active member of the Appellate Lawyers Association, where she serves on the Moot Court Committee, helping to organize an annual moot court competition open to law schools across the nation. In 1999, Ms. Jansen earned her J.D., magna cum laude, and an M.Ed., from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She received her B.A., magna cum laude, from Knox College in 1994.

Based in Hinshaw’s Minneapolis office, Shushanie E. Kindseth focuses her practice in commercial and business litigation. She is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association, Minnesota Defense Lawyers’ Association, Minnesota Women Lawyers and the Hennepin County Bar Association. Ms. Kindseth earned her J.D., with highest honors, from the University of Maryland School of Law in 2003. She received her B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Minnesota in 1999.

Based in Hinshaw’s Miami office, Tracy L. Kramer represents insurers in first- and third-party insurance coverage disputes during litigation and in the pre-suit claim process. She also counsels property and casualty insurers on best practices for establishing and maintaining proper claims handling procedures, including case flow management, investigation, effective early resolution techniques, and settlement conditions. Ms. Kramer is a member of The Florida Bar. She earned her J.D. in 1995 from Nova Southeastern University, and her B.A. from the University of Miami in 1992.

Based in Hinshaw’s Rockford, Illinois office, Timothy J. Leake assists individuals, closely held businesses, family businesses and others with corporate transactions and estate, financial and succession planning. He is a member of the American Bar Association (Business Law Section; Real Property Trust & Estate Law Section; Young Lawyers Division), the Illinois State Bar Association (Trust and Estate Section) and the Winnebago County Bar Association (Estate Section). Mr. Leake earned his J.D. in 2002 from the John Marshall Law School, where he graduated cum laude. He received his B.A., cum laude, from Luther College in 1999.

Based in Hinshaw’s Tampa office, Kristina L. Marsh represents insurers throughout Florida in first and third-party insurance coverage matters. Much of her practice focuses on defending first-party property coverage claims and defending insurers in sinkhole matters. Ms. Marsh represents some of the largest writers of property and sinkhole coverage in Florida. She also assists clients with commercial litigation, complex liability defense, construction defect litigation, large property loss subrogation, and products liability litigation. Ms. Marsh is a member of The Florida Bar, Hillsborough County Bar Association and the American Bar Association. She earned her J.D. in 2000 from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, and her B.A. from the University of South Florida in 1995.

Based in Hinshaw’s Los Angeles office, Amanda Mattocks provides counseling and litigation services to self-insured entities, uninsured employers and insurance companies in workers’ compensation defense matters. She also handles the defense of California Labor Code Section 132(a) discrimination cases and serious and willful claims. Ms. Mattocks is a member of the John M. Langston Bar Association and the Los Angeles County Bar Association. She earned her J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law in 2003, and bachelors degrees from Carleton University in 1999 and the University of Alberta in 1997. Ms. Mattocks volunteers with the Alliance for Children’s rights finalizing adoptions.

Based in Hinshaw’s Peoria, Illinois office, Patricia J. Naylor defends physicians and health care organizations in medical malpractice and other professional liability matters. She also assists and represents physicians and other healthcare professionals called as nonparty witnesses in depositions. Ms. Naylor is a member of the American Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association and the Peoria County Bar Association. She earned her J.D., cum laude, from Northern Illinois University College of Law in 2003, and her B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1999.

Based in Hinshaw’s Miami office, Maureen G. Pearcy represents clients in appeals in state and federal courts, including before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the Florida Supreme Court and several Florida district courts of appeal. She also provides appellate assistance and advice to trial attorneys during litigation. Ms. Pearcy handles professional liability, first-party, and other insurance coverage, and has helped draft amicus briefs involving issues affecting the insurance industry. Additionally, she has represented clients in class action, consumer, legal malpractice and products liability matters. Ms. Pearcy earned her J.D., cum laude, from American University Washington College of Law in 1995, and her B.A., with honors, from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988.

Based in Hinshaw’s Chicago office, Dana A. Rice represents insurers in complex coverage litigation involving commercial and personal lines insurance policies. He also represents insurance agents in disputes stemming from the insurance procurement process. In addition to his legal work, Mr. Rice is the lead singer for The Nuisance, a rock band comprised of Hinshaw attorneys. The band finished third in FORTUNE Magazine’s 2010 Battle of the Corporate Bands, which included a national field of more than 30 entrants. Mr. Rice earned his J.D., cum laude, from DePaul University College of Law in 2004, and his B.A. in 2001 from Michigan State University.

Based in Hinshaw’s Los Angeles office, Olga Simanovsky counsels and represents public and private clients in labor and employment law matters, including workers’ compensation defense. Ms. Simanovsky is a member of the California State Bar Association and the Oregon State Bar Association. Ms. Simanovsky earned her J.D. from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College, in 1997, and her B.A. in 1994 from the University of California at Los Angeles. Ms. Simanovsky is fluent in Russian.

Based in Hinshaw’s Minneapolis office, Aric T. Stienessen represents lenders, investment banks, investors, and borrowers in commercial debt and equity finance transactions. He also represents businesses in mergers, acquisitions, and real estate transactions, and has a business succession and estate planning practice. Mr. Stienessen is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association. From 2001 - 2010 he was a Minnesota Supreme Court Qualified Neutral (mediation / arbitration). Mr. Stienessen earned his J.D., cum laude, from William Mitchell College of Law in 2001, and his B.S. in business, with a major in accounting, from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Business in 1995.

Based in Hinshaw’s Miami office, Edward T. Sylvester represents insurers in complex insurance coverage disputes, including common law and bad faith litigation. He handles matters involving CGL, commercial property, commercial auto, life insurance, personal auto and professional liability policies. Mr. Sylvester is a member of the Florida Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, and American Bar Association Section of Litigation’s Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee. Mr. Sylvester earned his J.D. in 2000 from the University of Akron School of Law and his B.A. from Baldwin – Wallace College in 1995.

Based in Hinshaw’s Portland, Oregon office, Dayna E. Underhill advises lawyers, law firms and corporate in-house lawyers on legal ethics, risk management and professional responsibility topics. She also handles commercial litigation and labor and employment law matters. In 2010, the Washington State Bar Board of Governors appointed Ms. Underhill for a two-year term to its Disciplinary Advisory Roundtable; she is the only respondent’s counsel to be appointed. Ms. Underhill is a member of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers; Multnomah Bar Association; Oregon State Bar Association (Securities Section and Labor and Employment Section); Oregon Women Lawyers; and Washington State Bar Association. She earned her J.D. in 1992 from Suffolk University Law School, and her B.A., cum laude, from Hartwick College in 1988.
