CHICAGO ― According to a 2011 survey by
Chicago Lawyer listing the number of women and minority lawyers in law firms in
Illinois, Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP includes the highest number of minority attorneys, minority partners and women partners. The firm also ranked in the top five of the 112 responding law firms as to numbers of minority associates, women associates and women lawyers. Notably, among survey respondents, Hinshaw had only the eighth highest number of Illinois attorneys.
Hinshaw has also posted high numbers in other local and national diversity-related surveys published in 2011. In June,
The American Lawyer ranked Hinshaw 68th on its Diversity Scorecard, an annual ranking of large U.S. law firms according to their percentage of minority attorneys and their percentage of minority partners. The scorecard contains detailed information on minority legal staffing levels at law firms in the NLJ 250 and Am Law 200. Hinshaw posted the eighth highest gain on the scorecard from 2010 to 2011.
In May,
MultiCultural Law Magazine ranked Hinshaw in its annual “Top 100 Law Firms for Diversity.” The firm ranked 40th nationwide in overall diversity in the 2011 survey. Hinshaw also ranked 26th on the magazine’s “Top 50 Law Firms for Partners” list; 20th in its “Top 50 Law Firms for Associates list; 91st in its “Top 100 Law Firms for Women” list; 18th in its “Top 25 Law Firms for African-Americans” list and 23rd in its “Top 25 Law Firms for Hispanic-Americans” list.
In January,
Daily Business Review, a South Florida business publication, published its annual Diversity Scorecard, which lists Hinshaw as the law firm in South Florida that experienced the highest percentage increase in minority attorney employment over the previous five years. The Diversity Scorecard also listed Hinshaw among the top 10 firms in the categories of “Firms With the Most Black Attorneys,” and “Firms With the Most Women Attorneys.” Notably, Hinshaw defied the trend—which was identified in the article accompanying the Diversity Scorecard—of minority attorney employment decreasing in law firms in South Florida.
