June 27, 2006

Chicago, June 27, 2006 Respected management labor lawyer Thomas Y. Mandler, a partner in the Chicago office of national law firm Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, has been named one of the top 100 labor lawyers in the country by the Labor Relations Institute (LRI). The selection was based on a statistical study of results in National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) union representation elections.

According to LRI, inclusion on this list puts Mr. Mandler in the top one percent of labor attorneys in the United States, making him one of the most active and successful attorneys representing employers in NLRB elections.

Mr. Mandler was selected from more than 8,700 attorneys evaluated by LRI. The honor was determined by the number of NLRB elections in which each attorney participated, and the success rate of employers in those elections.

“To be included in the Top 100 is a tremendously prestigious honor,” according to LRI President Donald P. Wilson. “It demonstrates a long–term and highly professional dedication to those attorneys’ clients and profession.”

Mr. Mandler has for more than 30 years focused his practice on advising management on all types of labor and employment law matters. He represents both private and public sector employers on a nationwide basis in collective bargaining, grievance and arbitration proceedings, and strikes and injunctions. He has practiced before federal, state and local governmental agencies enforcing labor, equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, and occupational safety and health laws. Mr. Mandler also handles all types of matters relating to employees whether or not they are represented by a union, employed pursuant to a written employment agreement, or employed "at-will." Finally, Mr. Mandler devotes a substantial part of his practice to proactive training of clients' supervisors, in an attempt to prevent or minimize costly legal problems.

Mr. Mandler holds the highest rating from Martindale-Hubbell for ethics and legal ability. He has also been recognized by his peers as a Leading Lawyer in the area of Employment Law: Management. In 2005 and again in 2006, Mr. Mandler was named as a “Super Lawyer” in the area of Labor & Employment by Illinois Super Lawyers magazine. In 2000, Mr. Mandler received the Addis E. Hull Award of Excellence from the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE).

Mr. Mandler served as Chairman (1993-1994) of IICLE, as well as a member of the Executive Committee (1988-1995) and the Board of Directors (1982-1995). From 1998 to the present, he has served as the Associate Editor for the American Bar Association/Bureau of National Affairs publication "Discipline and Discharge in Arbitration." From 1987 to the present, he has served as a Topic Author of the ABA/BNA book entitled “How Arbitration Works”.
