Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP Elects New Executive Committee Members

Chicago, Illinois/Belleville, Illinois/Peoria, Illinois/ Milwaukee, Wisconsin/ Los Angeles, California – National law firm Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP has elected eight members to serve three-year terms on its Executive Committee.

The partners elected to the Executive Committee include:

Jeffrey R. Glass (Partner, Belleville office) is a trial lawyer who concentrates his practice in the defense of professional liability, hospital and nursing home liability, products liability, and all types of catastrophic injury, wrongful death and property damage claims. His assignments routinely include the defense of numerous professionals, including physicians and hospitals, architects and engineers, lawyers and accountants, in negligence claims. Mr. Glass is the Regional Director of Hinshaw's Southwest Region, encompassing the St. Louis, Missouri, and Belleville and Edwardsville, Illinois, offices. He is the partner-in-charge of both the Belleville and Edwardsville offices and is Chairman of Hinshaw's Diversity Committee. He was re-elected to the Executive Committee after completing a three-year term on June 1, 2005.

Douglass A. Marshall (Partner, Peoria office) focuses is practice on hospital and healthcare law, employment law, computer contracting, and corporate and general business matters. Much of his work involves service as general counsel and special counsel to a number of hospitals and other healthcare providers in Illinois. Mr. Marshall joined Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in June 1982. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys as well as past President. He is also a diplomate in the American College of Healthcare Executives, and holds memberships in numerous state and national health law associations. He was re-elected to the Executive Committee after completing a three-year term on June 1, 2005.

Daniel W. McGrath (Partner, Chicago office) is an experienced trial lawyer, with more than 20 years of experience in the preparation and trial of products liability, toxic tort, environmental and commercial litigation matters. He has substantial experience with mass tort and multi-district litigation. Mr. McGrath joined Hinshaw in June 1982. He was, when a non-equity partner, selected by his peers at the firm to be its first elected representative serving on the firm’s Executive Committee. He has served on the firm’s associate evaluation committee, other management committees, and as an instructor in the firm’s training program for associate attorneys, Hinshaw University. Mr. McGrath is presently co-leader of Hinshaw’s defense litigation practice group.

Carol Proctor (Partner, Chicago office) provides opinions in dispute resolutions, including litigation, on behalf of corporate clients for matters arising from contract disputes, particularly those involving insurance issues. She has been with Hinshaw since 1985. Ms. Proctor's experience spans many areas of law, including corporate, self-insurance/retention issues, reinsurance, self-insured/excess responsibility, ERISA and bad faith. She has tried cases throughout Illinois and has been involved in appellate work. She practices in many state and federal jurisdictions across the United States and has also been involved in international discovery.

Daniel K. Ryan (Partner, Chicago office) has a diverse commercial litigation practice. He is particularly recognized and distinguished for his strategic ability to successfully and aggressively resolve business disputes, particularly in matters tried in federal courts. His technical background includes a unique combination of capabilities in class action lawsuits, health care litigation, ERISA litigation, employment law and employment discrimination issues. Mr. Ryan also possesses a substantial capability in the area of such “special remedies” as temporary restraining orders, preliminary injunctions and other equitable remedies. Since joining Hinshaw in 1988, he has contributed significantly to its growth and management, having served on the Hiring Committee, the Associate Evaluation Committee and as an instructor for Hinshaw University, the firm’s training program for associate attorneys. He was re-elected to the Executive Committee after completing a three-year term on June 1, 2005.

Thomas R. Schrimpf (Partner, Milwaukee office) has an extensive commercial litigation and appellate practice that emphasizes issues involving insurance coverage, employment and environmental law. His practice encompasses jury trials, court trials, arbitrations and appellate proceedings. During the past two years Mr. Schrimpf has handled approximately 20 substantive motions involving many diverse issues, such as supervisory employee liability under Title VII, application of the Wisconsin Fair Dealership Law to multi-line distributors, and numerous insurance coverage issues. He has also represented clients in preliminary injunction hearings and arbitration demands. He joined Hinshaw in 1988.

John W. Sheller (Partner, Los Angeles office) is the partner-in-charge of the firm's Los Angeles office. For more than 28 years, John Sheller has defended lawyers, accountants, architects, engineers, insurance agents, real estate brokers and appraisers in professional malpractice actions and malicious prosecutions. He has handled many complex business tort actions, and has appeared in 20 reported Court of Appeals decisions. As an advocate of the American Board of Trial Advocates, he has tried more than 50 jury trials in addition to numerous bench trials and arbitrations. Mr. Sheller joined Hinshaw in January 2004. Previously, he spent his entire legal career at the Los Angeles law firm of Haight Brown & Bonesteel LLP, where he was the lead partner in the Professional Liability Practice Group.

Peter D. Sullivan (Partner, Chicago office) practices in trial and litigation of complex professional liability and commercial litigation cases, including actions against accountants and attorneys, director and officer liability and coverage cases, consumer class action cases and breach of contract cases. He also focuses on lender liability suits, real estate litigation, UCC litigation, state and federal securities law claims, RICO claims, business tort litigation and common law fraud actions. Mr. Sullivan is a regional director of litigation for the firm's Chicago-Metro area offices. He was re-elected to the Executive Committee after completing a three-year term on June 1, 2005.

Hinshaw is governed nationally by a Management Committee, comprised of seven capital partners, who set the strategic direction of the firm and make all key decisions relating to the governance of the partnership. The firm's Chairman, Donald Mrozek, runs the day-to-day operations of the firm with the assistance of the Managing Partner, J. William Roberts, and the Executive Managing Director, Paul Boken. Each office is managed by a partner in charge, who reports to the Management Committee.

Hinshaw's 25-member Executive Committee approves partner compensation decisions and nominations of firm members in consideration for election to partnership. On decisions that require a vote of the partnership (including partnership elections), the Management Committee will make proposals first to the Executive Committee for its review and consideration before bringing these to the partnership for a vote.
