Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP Announces Joining of Crystal Lake and Rockford Offices

March 16, 2009
ROCKFORD, Ill. – Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP announced today that its Crystal Lake and Rockford, Illinois, offices are joining forces as part of the firm’s long-term strategic plan. Effective April 1, partner Gregory T. Snyder will relocate his practice to Rockford as part of the move. Joining him are partner Jennifer L. Johnson and associate Daniel E. Wiesch.

Hinshaw’s Rockford office grows to 33 lawyers with the addition of the Crystal Lake attorneys, who will also continue in their capacity to represent clients in McHenry County. The firm’s other Illinois offices, in Belleville, Chicago, Edwardsville, Joliet, Lisle, Peoria and Springfield, will all continue to serve clients in their current strength and capacity. No further changes are planned.

“This is an exciting move that was carefully considered and implemented as part of the firm’s established strategic plan,” said Mr. Snyder, who served as partner-in-charge of the firm's Crystal Lake office for many years. “Rockford is a convenient hub for litigation proceedings as the seat for several U.S. District and Illinois Circuit Courts. We look forward to joining a diverse group of talented lawyers in Rockford, and expanding the range of services readily accessible to our current and future clients, in both McHenry County and in and around the Rockford area,” he said.

Gregory Snyder has a diverse litigation practice, with a focus in the areas of medical defense litigation, health care law and religious institution liability. He represents hospitals, physicians and nurses in litigation, and also defends health care providers before the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Mr. Snyder has successfully represented religious institutions involved in sensitive litigation. He has also defended a number of municipalities in northern Illinois against claims of civil rights discrimination and personal injury claims. He earned his J.D. from DePaul University in 1993.

Jennifer Johnson is a litigator who focuses her practice in the area of medical malpractice defense, auto defense and premises liability, as well as religious institution litigation. She devotes a substantial portion of her practice to defending physicians and hospitals, and has experience in both federal and state courts defending religious institutions. Ms. Johnson also counts amusement park organizations and recreational facilities among her clients. Ms. Johnson earned her J.D. from Indiana University School of Law in 1996.

Daniel Wiesch has a diverse litigation practice with emphasis on the defense of medical malpractice claims. He also has experience litigating a broad range of cases including commercial litigation matters, employment disputes, products liability, construction defect and nursing home liability claims. He earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2001.

Established in 1984, Hinshaw’s Rockford office is located in Northern Illinois halfway between Chicago and Madison, Wisconsin. Rockford is the seat of the United States District Court and United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois (Western Division), and the seat of the Illinois Circuit Court for Winnebago and Boone Counties.

More than half of the attorneys in the firm’s Rockford office are full time litigators in the federal and state courts, covering McHenry, DeKalb, Boone, Winnebago, Ogle, Lee, Stephenson, Jo Daviess, Carroll and Whiteside Counties, where they handle all types of commercial litigation as well as professional liability defense and general liability litigation. Hinshaw attorneys in the Rockford office also maintain a sophisticated business practice, providing services to clients in the areas of health care, labor and employment management issues, immigration, banking, mergers and acquisitions, business organizations, real estate, municipal and school law, estate and financial planning, environmental, and bankruptcy and creditors' rights.

Hinshaw’s Rockford office and its attorneys have long been active in the Rockford community. In August 2008 the office received the "Heart of Rockford" Award for Commitment by a Business from Rockford's River District Association, highlighting the Rockford office's community involvement and the involvement of many of the Rockford office attorneys in downtown-based community organizations.
