Katherine K. Cheng, 30. Katherine Cheng represents insurance companies, self-insured entities and uninsured employers in the defense and litigation of worker’s compensation matters. Ms. Cheng has prior experience practicing in the areas of immigration and naturalization law, trademark and copyright applications, as well as criminal procedure. She received her J.D. in 2002 from LoyolaLawSchool, where she served as Note and Comment Editor of the Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review. During law school, Ms. Cheng was an extern for The Honorable Ronald S.W. Lew, of the United States District Court for the Central District of California, and in the Civil Pretrial Division at the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office. She is a member of the Los Angeles Bar Association and the Asian Pacific American Bar Association. Ms. Cheng speaks conversational Chinese.
Jeffery R. Lawley, 31. Jeffery Lawley focuses his practice in complex litigation at the state and federal levels, with particular emphasis in products liability, medical malpractice defense and personal injury defense. Mr. Lawley represents a diverse clientele including manufacturers of industrial and commercial vehicles, power doors, power tools, small appliances and cosmetics. Additionally, he defends physicians of all specialties, hospitals, nurses, insurers of medical professionals, home health agencies, assisted living facilities, skilled nursing facilities, dentists and pharmacists. Mr. Lawley also represents corporations involved in transportation accidents, and national companies as well as local Florida-based corporations. He received his J.D. in 2002 from St. Thomas University School of Law, where he served as President of the Mock Trial Board. Prior to law school, Mr. Lawley clerked for The Honorable Dennis W. Mattingly, Magistrate, Fayette County Court of Common Pleas in Ohio. He is a member of The Florida Bar, Tennessee Bar Association, American Bar Association, Broward County Bar Association, American Health Lawyers Association, Defense Research Institute and the Florida Medical Malpractice Claims Council.

Edward T. Sylvester, 39. Edward T. Sylvester focuses his practice in the area of commercial insurance coverage. Mr. Sylvester has experience analyzing commercial general liability, architects and engineers, directors and officers, errors and omissions, commercial auto, personal auto and excess/umbrella insurance policies. He is also a skilled appellate attorney, having prepared appellate briefs for and successfully argued before numerous courts of appeals. Mr. Sylvester is an adjunct professor for Indiana Wesleyan University and a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Akron Law Alumni Association. In 2000, he received his J.D. from the University of Akron School of Law, where he served as Research Case & Comment Editor for the Akron Law Review.

Scott M. Gilbert, 27. Scott Gilbert advises management-side clients in a wide array of labor and employment law matters. Mr. Gilbert handles employment discrimination claims before the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the federal and Illinois state courts. He also handles defamation and breach of contract claims arising from employment circumstances. In addition, Mr. Gilbert regularly reviews and analyzes employee handbooks and personnel policies for his clients. Graduating cum laude, he earned his J.D. in 2004 from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. While in law school, Mr. Gilbert was an award-winning member of the Loyola University Chicago School of Law moot court team, which won the Robert F. Wagner National Labor & Employment Law Moot Court national competition in 2003. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association.
