Greg Snyder focuses his litigation practice in the areas of medical malpractice defense, health care law and religious institution liability. He defends health care providers before the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, as well as in state and federal courts throughout Illinois.
Mr. Snyder represents a number of Illinois hospitals, physicians and nurses in complex litigation involving allegations such as wrongful death and bodily injury. He also leads a team of attorneys who conduct internal investigations at hospitals, religious organizations and physician groups to identify potential criminal and civil exposure. Mr. Snyder has successfully defended religious institutions involved in sensitive litigation.

- The defense of a psychiatrist in Will County, Illinois at jury trial in a case where a patient took his own life after a short inpatient admission to psychiatric ward. Plaintiff claimed defendant failed to properly evaluate the patient's potential for suicide. Verdict for defense, April 2010.
- The defense of a pediatrician in Winnebago County, Illinois in a case that arose from a surgical procedure performed by defendant that resulted in burns to a child’s right index finger and dorsum of her dominant hand. Prevailed at jury trial of this matter by convincing the jury that this unwanted outcome was a recognized complication of the procedure being performed and that the results occurred in the absence of any wrongdoing or negligence on the part of the physician. Verdict for defense.
- The defense of an internal medicine physician in U.S. District Court in Rockford, Illinois, in a case that arose out of bleeding complications experienced by plaintiff following a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass bariatric procedure for weight loss. After several years of litigation, Mr. Snyder’s client was dismissed with prejudice from the case just prior to the trial without any settlement payment.
- The defense of a plastic surgeon in Winnebago County, Illinois against allegations of improper surgical technique in the performance of a breast reconstruction surgery. Verdict for defense.
Mr. Snyder joined Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP as an associate in August 1993. Previously he was a summer associate with the firm. Mr. Snyder coordinates the Rockford, Illinois office’s summer associate program, and has served as a partner-in-charge of a regional office.
He is an active member of the firm’s Medical Litigation Practice Group and coordinates and also teaches ongoing continuing legal education classes for the group throughout the year. Mr. Snyder is also a member of Hinshaw’s Health Care Practice Group.
Since 2005, Mr. Snyder has taught “Illinois Civil Procedure,” an annual seminar that covers local rules of Illinois’ 17th, 19th and 22nd judicial circuits, as part of Hinshaw University, the firm’s nationwide attorney training and education program. He has also lectured at Harper College in Palatine, Illinois as part of its paralegal program.
Mr. Snyder is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Illinois Association of Health Care Attorneys, the Illinois Association of Defense Counsel and the Defense Research Institute.
He has been rated by Martindale-Hubbell for ethics and legal ability.
Mr. Snyder has given presentations to local businesses on the legal advantages of various forms of business entities, and the development of document retention and destruction programs. He has also spoken to county bar associations on changes to the Illinois Supreme Court rules. His presentations include:

Mr. Snyder is a member of the board of directors and serves as General Counsel of the Molly D. Burns Foundation for Children, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin.
Greg is an avid runner and cyclist. He completed the Chicago Marathon in 2009, and in 2010 he completed it to raise money for Have Dreams – Helping Autistic Voices Emerge. Greg has ridden the Register's Great Annual Bike Ride Across Iowa on three occasions.
