Graeme P. Rattray
Graeme Rattray’s practice is focused on business litigation involving commercial contracts, real estate acquisitions and sales, financing arrangements and licensing agreements.
Mr. Rattray also has experience representing clients in premises liability, product liability and medical malpractice lawsuits. He handles all aspects of trial practice and is a skilled negotiator who has successfully resolved disputes through mediation, arbitration and trial.
Mr. Rattray served on the City of Appleton Common Council from April 2006 to April 2008 as Alderman for the Second District. He was the first African-American alderman in Appleton’s history.
Mr. Rattray joined Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in May 2005. Previously he was a senior associate for four years with the St. Louis, Missouri, law firm of Sandberg, Phoenix & von Gontard, P.C., where he represented individual and corporate clients involved in business disputes, both as defendants and plaintiffs. He also defended product manufacturers in lawsuits involving catastrophic injuries, and defended doctors and hospitals in malpractice actions.
Mr. Rattray also was an associate for two years in the products liability department with the St. Louis office of Thompson Coburn LLP, where he was a member of the team that served as national defense counsel for one of the world’s largest tobacco companies.
During his final year of law school, Mr. Rattray served as an intern with the St. Louis County Public Defenders’ Office in Clayton, Missouri, where he gained valuable experience representing clients charged with misdemeanors and felonies.
Prior to his legal career, Mr. Rattray was an assignment editor for the CBS News affiliate station in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
In 2007, Mr. Rattray was named as a “Rising Star” in the area of business litigation by Wisconsin Super Lawyers magazine.
Mr. Rattray is a member of the Missouri Bar Association and the Outagamie County Bar Association, where he holds the office of Vice President.
Mr. Rattray is a member of the Community Foundation Basic Needs Advisory Committee. During his tenure on the City of Appleton Common Council, he served on the Community Development Committee; Appleton Redevelopment Authority; and College Avenue Design Committee.
