Thomas P. McGarry, will present as part of a panel "Ethics Alert: Multimillion Dollar Legal Malpractice Verdicts - A Teachable Moment for all Lawyers" at the MCCA 11th Annual CLE Expo on March 21, 2012, from 4:00 to 5:30 PM.
In 2010, a Mississippi jury awarded verdicts totaling $100 million against a leading law firm for legal malpractice. This panel of legal malpractice specialists, legal ethics practitioners and in-house counsel will discuss recent legal malpractice trends and insurance coverage issues for in-house counsel and outside counsel, including: the intersection between rules of professional conduct and professional liability claims against lawyers; trends in frequency and severity of lawyers professional liability claims over last 20 years; trends in professional liability claims related to areas of practice, activities and types of errors; and the issues being addressed by the ABA Ethics 2020 Commission.
