Dana A. Rice

Practice Focus
Dana Rice represents insurance companies in complex coverage litigation involving the insurer’s duties and obligations under all types of insurance policies, including general liability, homeowner’s and automobile policies. He handles all phases of coverage litigation, from initial pleadings through discovery and substantive motion practice.

In addition to his litigation practice, Mr. Rice prepares opinion letters for his insurance clients, outlining coverage obligations and potential exposure for first- and third-party claims.
Professional Background
Mr. Rice joined Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in April 2007. Previously he was an associate with Stellato & Schwartz, Ltd., in Chicago, where he practiced in the areas of insurance coverage litigation and appellate law.

While in law school, Mr. Rice clerked from 2003 to 2004 with the Chicago Transit Authority, and from 2002 to 2003, he clerked at William J. Sneckenberg & Associates.

In addition to his other law school accomplishments, Mr. Rice was President of the DePaul National Moot Court Society (2003-2004) and a recipient of a number of CALI Awards for Excellence, including Legal Profession (2004), Real Estate Transactions (2003) and Sports Law (2002).

During his undergraduate studies, Mr. Rice was a member of the Dean’s List and a recipient of the Donald V. Clay Educational Scholarship (1997-2001). He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
Publications and Presentations
Mr. Rice is a co-author of “Class Actions – The Challenges Facing Insurers in Defending Class Action Lawsuits,” a paper for the DRI Insurance Coverage & Claims Institute Conference in April 2009.

His presentations include "Storm Spotter: Early Identification and Resolution of the Complex Claim,” at Hinshaw’s 2011 Insurance Services Symposium, in Chicago, Illinois, October 2011.
Personal
Dana is the lead singer for “The Nuisance,” a rock band comprised of Hinshaw attorneys. The band was chosen to participate in FORTUNE Magazine’s 2010 Battle of the Corporate Bands, and advanced to the finals held at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, in Cleveland, Ohio in October 2010, where it finished third in a field of more than 30 bands. The Nuisance is working on its first CD.
