MILWAUKEE ― Steven M. DeVougas, an attorney in the firm’s Milwaukee office, has been elected to serve on the board of directors of the Wisconsin Association of African American Lawyers (WAAL). He was also elected to serve as the association's liaison to the State Bar of Wisconsin's Board of Governors.
As a member of WAAL’s Board of Directors, Mr. DeVougas will raise the level of the association’s community service activities throughout Wisconsin and promote the talent and ability of the organization’s members, through networking and marketing. As a liaison to the State Bar of Wisconsin's Board of Governors, he intends to keep WAAL and its members informed as to developments in the State Bar and make sure that WAAL’s opinions are represented in the policy that will be presented and discussed by the State Bar.
Mr. DeVougas joined WAAL in 2006, while attending Marquette University Law School, and served as liaison between the school’s Black Law Students Association and WAAL. During that time, he assisted with both organizations’ Law Day efforts, which involved law students and practicing attorneys visiting a high school and discussing law school and the practice of law. He has since helped plan and promote WAAL's scholarship banquet, which was co-sponsored by Hinshaw.
Mr. DeVougas focuses his practice in commercial and general civil litigation. He represents clients in a variety of disputes, ranging from contract and business matters to insurance coverage disputes. He also represents attorneys in professional liability matters.
