MINNEAPOLIS ― The national law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP has announced that
Kevin R. Coan, a trial attorney who focuses his practice primarily in labor and employment law and business litigation, has joined the firm’s
Minneapolis office as a partner. Mr. Coan previously served as a partner in the Minneapolis office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP.

Donald L. Mrozek, Hinshaw’s chairman. “Kevin’s vast knowledge and experience handling employment litigation and risk management will prove invaluable to the firm as we continue to assist our clients in Minnesota, regionally and nationally with the constantly evolving body of employment laws.”
Mr. Coan handles a variety of matters, including defending management in litigation involving employment discrimination, the FMLA, ERISA retaliation, non-compete agreements, sexual harassment, and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. He does a substantial amount of employment law counseling and works closely with human relations professionals on a regular basis regarding employment issues nationwide. Mr. Coan also counsels on the drafting and updating of employee handbooks, employment and separation agreements and, other employment-related issues. In addition, he practices in the areas of commercial litigation, products liability defense, and real estate and shareholder disputes.
Mr. Coan earned his J.D.,
magna cum laude, from William Mitchell College of Law, and his B.A.,
cum laude, in English from Hamline University. He is a member of the Employment Law Sections of the Hennepin County Bar Association, Minnesota State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. Mr. Coan is also a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, Minnesota Multi-Housing Association, and the Minnesota Hospitality Association.
