Chicago Daily Law Bulletin Discusses Scholarship for Disabled Law Students Started by Stacy Campbell-Viamontes

November 8, 2011
Stacy Campbell-Viamontes, an attorney in the Chicago office of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, was quoted in the article, “Lawyer Links Wedding to Scholarship for Law Students With Disabilities,” which appeared in the October 14, 2011, issue of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin. The piece discusses the Disabled Law Student Scholarship Award (DLSSA), started by Campbell-Viamontes and her now-husband, George F. Viamontes.

The scholarship was created in honor of Campbell-Viamontes’ father who was paralyzed in 1985 after being shot by a man who was trying to rob a restaurant.  As explained in the article the couple “wanted to make a statement and say there’s more to life than just planning a big wedding.”  Campbell-Viamontes and her husband made an initial contribution to the scholarship and guests who attended their October 15, 2011, wedding were asked to donate to the fund in lieu of traditional wedding gifts. Total contributions to the DLSSA now exceed $4000 and additional contributions are expected when the scholarship is unveiled at the upcoming Diversity Scholarship Foundation Unity Dinner on November 30, 2011.  The scholarship, which awards at least $500 a year to law students who have a disability, will be available starting in 2012.  To learn more about the DLSSA visit http://www.diversitychicago.org/dc/donate/contribute-to-the-dlssa/ or feel free to contact Campbell-Viamontes directly.

Mrs. Campbell-Viamontes provides legal representation to clients in personal injury cases, products liability disputes, commercial litigation and hospitality industry claims. She is a co-chair of the Committee on Lawyers with Disabilities for the Diversity Scholarship Foundation, serves on the Young Professionals Board for the Center for Disability and Elder Law (CDEL), and serves on the 2012 CDEL Winter Benefit Committee.
