We recognize the need for a work-life balance. Achieving this balance is not always easy, and we acknowledge and support the efforts of our attorneys to attain that goal. We expect our attorneys to work hard, and understand that the demands on them can often be rigorous. However, we also understand their need for personal development as they develop professionally.
Our commitment to learning begins with our Summer Associate Program, in which our summer associates rotate through as many as four practice areas throughout the twelve-week program. Then, as an associate, you are assigned to one practice area, as well as a specialty group, in which to begin your career and to begin to develop an area of expertise. We recognize the importance of mentoring, so we strongly encourage an open working relationship among attorneys of all experience levels. Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP continues to invest in your development with our comprehensive training programs. Hinshaw University is the firm's week-long training program that focuses primarily on attorneys with less than three years of experience and takes place in the Chicago office. Beyond the practice-oriented training provided by each department, Hinshaw U provides programs that focus on the day-today skills needed to be a successful attorney. Hinshaw U, as well as the Pro Bono clinical experience, serves as a feeder for our Trial Advocacy Program. The Program consists of an instructional phase from a faculty drawn from the firm's many trial attorneys and its informal alumni association of judges. The instructional phase is followed by clinics during which the participants get to hone their skills before culminating in a half-day jury trial.
