Brett B. Larsen

Practice Focus
Brett Larsen focuses his litigation practice in general civil and commercial litigation. He represents clients in contract, employment and business disputes, and also handles a wide range of professional liability and insurance coverage matters.

As a former special prosecutor with the Milwaukee County District Attorney, Mr. Larsen has substantial trial experience. In that role, he was lead attorney in eight jury and court trials as well as in numerous evidentiary hearings.
Professional Background
Mr. Larsen joined Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP as an associate in May 2007. Previously he was a summer associate with the firm in 2006, and a law clerk in 2007. He spent the summer of 2007 as a Public Service Special Prosecutor for the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office.

During law school, Mr. Larsen worked as a research assistant in international law for Professor Andrea K. Schneider. In addition to his other law school accomplishments, Mr. Larsen was a member of the Dean’s List and a participant in the Marquette Moot Court Program. He was a recipient of the Law Alumni Scholarship and was Secretary of the Environmental Law Society.

Prior to his legal career, he was a print journalist. From 2003 to 2004, he was the Sports Editor of The Park Record, the local newspaper in Park City, Utah, and in 2002 was a City Desk reporter and intern at The Deseret Morning News, a Salt Lake City daily paper.

During his undergraduate studies, Mr. Larsen participated at the Brigham Young University Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies in Jerusalem.

Mr. Larsen’s professional memberships include the American Bar Association, Milwaukee Bar Association and the Milwaukee Young Lawyers Association.
Publications and Presentations
Mr. Larsen’s publications include, “No Closer to Clarity: The Establishment Clause and the Supreme Stumble in Van Orden v. Perry,” Marquette Law Review, Fall 2006.
Community Service Activities
While in law school, Mr. Larsen helped attorneys complete client interviews at the Marquette Volunteer Legal Clinic.

From 1997 to 1999, he was a full-time volunteer in the Ukraine, performing janitorial work at a local hospital, teaching community English classes and visiting local orphanages
