CHICAGO ― The national law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP announced today that
Michael J. Barker has joined the firm as a partner in its
Jacksonville office. Mr. Barker brings deep experience in representing the real estate, construction, banking and hospitality industries in both transactional and litigation matters. He was previously a shareholder of Barker & Barker, P.A. and Barker Land Title & Escrow, Inc., which he started in 2001.
“Mike is both a skilled litigator and transactional lawyer, and his addition to our Jacksonville office will help service clients involved in real estate transactions and construction, and real estate disputes in north Florida and throughout the state,” said
H. Keith Thomerson, Co-Partner-in-Charge of Hinshaw’s Jacksonville office.

Mr. Barker focuses his practice on real estate and loan transactions and assists in resolving real estate and construction disputes as they arise. His transactional practice includes representing lenders, sellers, purchasers, developers, contractors, and landlords and tenants in commercial and residential real estate transactions, contract preparation and negotiation, loan documentation, and leases. On the litigation side, he represents contractors, trades, owners, developers, sureties, architects, engineers and lenders in construction-related disputes.
A Jacksonville native, Mr. Barker is board certified in construction law by The Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization and Education. He is a member of The Florida Bar (Construction Law Committee, Real Property Probate and Trust Law Section) and the Jacksonville Bar Association (Commercial Litigation and Real Property Law Sections). He is also a member of numerous professional organizations that support the real estate and construction industries, which include, the Northeast Florida Association of Realtors, Northeast Florida Builders Association, Associated Builders & Contractors, The Associated General Contractors of America, and NAIOP.
Mr. Barker holds a J.D. from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law (1999) and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Florida (1996).
