Matthew Kees focuses his practice in defense litigation, with particular emphasis in defending against claims of personal injury, property damage, premises liability and negligence. In addition, he handles business litigation related to contractual matters, securities disputes, and real estate. Mr. Kees also devotes a portion of his practice to medical professionals liability defense, focusing primarily in the defense of physicians and other medical professionals against claims of medical malpractice. His clients include both business entities and individuals.

Mr. Kees has served as a judge pro tempore for civil commitment hearings and various pre-trial hearings, and has both jury and bench trial experience. He conducts research, prepares opinions, and is involved in all phases of the litigation process.

Professional Background

Prior to joining Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in August 2014, Mr. Kees was a judicial clerk to two judges in Allen Superior Court in Fort Wayne, Indiana. During law school he served a series of clerkships, and two externships. He also worked as a teaching assistant for Legal Writing and Reasoning.

In addition to his other law school accomplishments, Mr. Kees was a recipient of the Heritage Scholarship. He was recognized for the highest grade in a securities regulation seminar and received semester honors multiple times.

During his undergraduate studies, Mr. Kees was a nine-time academic all-conference in both football and track, a four-year letter winner in both football and track and a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity International.

Mr. Kees speaks conversational Spanish.


Matthew is an intrepid traveler and has made it through 17 countries on four continents (so far).
