Representative Matters

Luis Diz focuses his practice in general liability litigation with particular emphasis on matters involving premises liability, motor vehicle accidents, products liability, construction defect claims, labor and employment matters and ERISA litigation. He also has experience in the defense of catastrophic personal injury cases.

Throughout his practice, Mr. Diz has represented companies such as Granada Insurance Company, Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, Penske Truck Leasing, North American Van Lines, Chase Manhattan Automotive Finance Corp., Estes Trucking, Sims Crane, Hunter Crane, Bank One, USA Truck, Moen, Inc., International Security Management Group and Sentry Select Insurance Company.

Professional Background

Mr. Diz joined Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in October 2007 after having been in private practice as a partner in a full-service civil law office since January 2007.

Mr. Diz began his legal career in 2000 at Nicklaus, Hyatt & Pena, P.A. From 2002 to 2005, he was an associate at Peter A. Miller & Associates (formerly Holland, Singer & Miller) in Miami. From there, he joined Marlow, Connell, Valerious, Abrams, Adler, Newman & Lewis, and then The Ferraro Law Firm, a plaintiffs’ personal injury firm, where he handled a variety of personal injury cases through trial.

  • Named as one of Florida Trend magazine’s “Florida Legal Elite” in the area of civil trial law. Florida Legal Elite is comprised of the top 1.8 percent of all Florida lawyers.

Representative Matters

Mr. Diz’s representative cases include Leo A. Mena, as personal representative of the estate of Laura R. Mena v. Sweat Transportation, Inc. and Minnie V. Corbitt as executrix of the estate of Billy Corbitt, Case No. 01-28401, April 2009. Defendant trucker was accused of motor vehicle negligence in an accident where both drivers were injured and subsequently died. Plaintiff sought $6 million for pain, suffering, disability, loss of limb and hospital expenses. Jury verdict for the defense. Tried before Judge Victoria Platzer, Miami-Dade Circuit Court.
