Karen Kosta is a certified paralegal. She is a registered paralegal with The Florida Bar and is also a notary public. Ms. Kosta focuses her paralegal practice in litigation, assisting attorneys with matters involving personal injury defense, wrongful death claims and property damage disputes. In addition, Ms. Kosta's experience as a paralegal for a plaintiff's attorney is very helpful in her defense paralegal practice.
Ms. Kosta assists with investigations of plaintiff claims. She handles the full range of paralegal duties, including interviewing clients, performing legal research, preparing discovery requests and responses and medical record review and summarization, as well as managing document production, organizing pleadings, preparing for trial and assisting attorneys at trial and in all phases of the litigation process. She has substantial experience with a number of trial software programs.
Prior to joining Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in November 2013, Ms. Kosta was a litigation paralegal and Facilities Damage Department Manager for a defense attorney in Florida, where she was responsible for the formation of a new department for an existing client. She also worked as a litigation paralegal for firms in Ft. Lauderdale and Boca Raton, Florida; with medical malpractice experience in Rochester, NY.
Prior to her paralegal career, Ms. Kosta was an emergency medical technician. She completed two years of nursing coursework and graduated as an ultrasound technologist. Her medical background has been a strong asset in her paralegal career.
She was also a licensed insurance agent in Florida which assists in insurance defense and property damage work.
She is a member of the National Association of Legal Assistants.
Ms. Kosta has assisted on many class action lawsuits and high-profile lawsuits involving the telecommunications industry.
Karen holds a Second Degree black belt in karate.
