David Carugati is an active member of the firm's Labor & Employment Practice Group and specializes in workers compensation defense with significant experience in insurance services and commercial litigation. Mr. Carugati collaborates primarily with self-insured employers and third party administrators to develop strategies to achieve the best possible resolutions so that files are closed quickly, minimizing liability as well as costs.

He is in the midst of a multi-year engagement serving as a settlement consultant for an excess insurance carrier. He has been involved in settlements in New York, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Ohio, New Mexico Georgia, Louisiana, Pennsylvania and Tennessee. His responsibilities include negotiating settlements that comply with state workers compensation requirements as well as Medicare reporting and set-aside regulations.

When necessary and appropriate, he tenaciously defends his clients in litigation. Mr. Carugati has represented the employer exclusively in forty-seven Final Merits Hearings before the Offices of Judges of Compensation Claims in all seventeen districts in the state of Florida. He has also handled eight appellate proceedings in the First District Court of Appeal in Tallahassee, Florida.

Professional Background

Mr. Carugati joined Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in September 1998, immediately following his graduation from law school. While in law school at the University of Miami School of Law, he was a member of Phi Alpha Delta (1996–1998) and the Business Law Review (1996–1998). He was also a Dan Bradley Scholarship Recipient from 1997-1998 and was a Florida Bar Foundation Fellow in 1997.
