Amy Jensen focuses her practice in the area of labor and employment law. She is actively involved in all aspects of litigation, and has arbitrated and mediated numerous matters, as well as tried cases in both state and federal courts.
In her employment law practice Ms. Jensen handles matters involving discrimination, harassment, disability and retaliation claims. She defends claims in both state and federal courts, as well as before governmental agencies, including the Labor Commissioner, Department of Fair Employment and Housing and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Ms. Jensen also counsels and advises employers in making employment and risk management decisions, and also assists her clients in developing and implementing processes consistent with their business objectives and applicable labor laws. Her clients include employers in both the public and private sectors.
As part of her labor and employment practice, Ms. Jensen handles a substantial amount of class action litigation involving wage and hour claims, including meal and rest breaks, overtime claims (both off-the-clock and time shaving claims) and uniform charges, among others. This part of her practice also includes challenging and seeking dismissal of claims, opposing class certification and resolution of claims through settlement.
Ms. Jensen also handles business and commercial disputes and other complex litigation matters, including appellate matters.
Ms. Jensen is a Voluntary Settlement Conference Officer for the Los Angeles Superior Court. As such, she works with litigants to attempt to craft resolution short of trial through voluntary settlement conferences.
Ms. Jensen joined Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP as an associate in May 2004. Previously she was a law clerk with the firm in 2002.
She served as a research attorney for two Los Angeles Superior Court judges and was also previously an associate with the law firm of Simkin & Associates in Los Angeles.
Prior to her legal career, Ms. Jensen worked in the airline, banking and hospitality industries, as well as in the corporate world.
Ms. Jensen is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association (Labor and Employment Section), the American Bar Association and Professionals in Human Resources.
In 2011, Ms. Jensen was named to the
Rising Stars list by
Southern California Super Lawyers and Rising Stars magazine.
Ms. Jensen is a member of the 2010 – 2011 Editorial Board of
Los Angeles Lawyer. She is a co-author of “Miscellaneous Claims,” a chapter in the Third Edition of
Architect and Engineer Liability: Claims Against Design Professionals, published by
Aspen. She is also a regular contributor to Hinshaw’s
Employment Practices Alert newsletter and its California Employment Alert.
